DO IT WITH PASSION, OR NOT AT ALL

By Sharlene Lobo for Enlighten India Blog - June 26, 2017

DO IT WITH PASSION, OR NOT AT ALL

Chef Ranjeet Patil

Truth be told. Sharlene Lobo explores the story of a journey that has placed Chef Ranjeet Patil in India's leading luxury hotel brand - Club Mahindra at Varca, Goa, also well-known on the global front. Toiling away in professional kitchens, long hours, monotony and the pressing tension of setting it right in terms of taste, consistency and extravagance, Chef Ranjeet Patil has mastered the art of cooking by sheer dedication, patience and persistence.

Chef Ranjeet Patil, who was raised in a middle class home in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, stepped into catering and hospitality as part time work after completing his 10th standard in the early 2000's. With fair knowledge of food grains (owing to his father who was a farmer) and no experience whatsoever, he continued serving his guests for a few Rupees until he realized he was drawn to smells and sights of people cooking. In 2005, he discovered this passion when he assisted a few experienced chefs in the top class kitchens of Pune. After securing a diploma in Hotel Management, Patil made his way to the golden streets of Saket in Delhi, in 2008, where he understood food as a business and learned the subtle nuances. "It wasn't only about cooking but also about owning your tasks and seeking its fruition, re-innovating and taking a second look on first impressions," says Patil who once cooked a 100 kg Biryani in one go. "My mom is my inspiration and my first dish was Bharli Vaangi," says Patil proudly. When asked about failures and mishaps in the kitchen, he says, "In the hotel industry you are taught how to be cost effective. The amount of food wasted, projects the efficiency of a chef, or inefficiency rather. I believe no food or ingredient can ever go waste; even the thin vegetable stems can be boiled for the delicious and healthy vegetable stalk. You must always find a way to use what is left of something. It's the jugaad that you learn with time and experience."

Chef Ranjeet Patil, who's surprisingly young in age but mature in experience, has dodged many jobs and places before bagging the post of head chef in Club Mahindra, Varca. On his nomadic duty he says, "Change is constant. Kahin pahunchne ke liye aapko pehele kahin se nikalna hoga. (You need to leave one place to get to another). After all, it's not the quantity that matters but quality. Your USP is a must, something that only you can do and others can't. That's when your demand will be persistent."

On the personal front, the fun loving and cheerful chef, who works six days a week from morning to night, expresses his desire to go to Kolhapur more often as he misses his wife but his edgy schedule demands more of his professional time that leaves him with only 3-4 days of leisure time every six months to spend with family. When asked about cooking at home or being critical about his wife's food he laughs and says, "I eat whatever my wife makes for me. Although I'm never critical, she's always nervous when I'm eating her food. I've taught her some wonderful cuisines especially sea food. I remember before marriage, families in my village would be reluctant to see me as their daughter's husband as they thought I was some not-so-well-to-do baawarchi. Luckily, this wasn't the case with my wife when she saw the ground reality. I think, media has changed the way we see chefs in India, today. With cooking reality shows and food channels, chefs are treated with respect. But we still have a long way to go." Ask him about his future goals and he says, "I wish to make a name internationally. If gotten an opportunity, I'd like to visit Europe and learn their local taste and cuisine." The ever aspiring chef, who still wants to learn more and bring a recognition to his nation, is glad that he joined the hotel industry and not the Indian army, as he initially wanted to. "Although I didn't join the army, today I'm getting to serve ex-army men and retired officers who come to dine at the restaurant. This fills me with enough nationalistic fervour," says Chef Ranjeet Patil cheerfully.

SALMAN KHAN GIVES A GRAND INTRODUCTION TO MATIN REY TANGU

SALMAN KHAN WITH MATIN REY TANGU

Tubelight’s special event turned out to be one hell of a gala night as the world finally met the star of the film - Matin Rey Tangu.

Present at the event was Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Kabir Khan, Amar Butala, Nakash Aziz, Amit Mishra, Jubin Nautiyal, Javed Ali and of course the adorable Matin Rey Tangu who stole the show with his entry. The makers kept up the intrigue quotient on Matin and his special connection to Salman in the film. The child star was the grand unveil in other words the surprise package of the evening.

Salman Khan was at his candid best as he interacted with the press. A group of dancers swayed to a medley of Tubelight tracks onstage following by smashing performances by Nakash Aziz and Javed Ali. Javed Ali also gave us a glimpse of the new track Kuch Nahi. Jubin’s rendition of the song Tinka Tinka left the audience moved and emotional.

Matin took to the stage amidst hoots and cheers beckoning the audience to welcome him. Joined by Amit Mishra onstage, he danced to the super-hit Radio song. The highlight of the night was definitely Matin and Salman Khan’s impromptu jig.

From what an inspiration Matin was to interesting anecdotes from the film, Salman Khan had the most endearing things to say about his favourite co-star Matin. "Matin is one of the brightest kids I've ever worked with and it was an absolute pleasure!"

Amar Butala, COO Salman Khan Films says, “Audiences were waiting to see Matin and we too missed him. This special night was to introduce him to the world and show the fantastic bond between him and Salman.”

WHEN SHAH RUKH MET SALMAN IN TUBELIGHT

By Enlighten India Blog - June 22, 2017

WHEN SHAH RUKH MET SALMAN IN TUBELIGHT

In Kabir Khan's Tubelight, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan will be seen together, after 20 years. Shah Rukh has a cameo in the film, which sees Salman in the role of a simpleton, whose brother is a soldier fighting in the 1962 Sino-India war.

When superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan shot for their only scene together in the movie Tubelight, years after blockbusters like Karan Arjun, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, the atmosphere was filled with fun and warmth.. “It was beautiful. These days they are close friends (laughs) so, there was a lot of warmth and affection. I have known Shah Rukh for years. He was the only one I knew when I came to Mumbai. We were in the same college (in Delhi), he was my senior in the film school, I studied from his notes. Gauri and I danced in stage productions. Obviously when we went to him, I told Salman that we should have Shah Rukh for the role. Shah Rukh was ready in an instant. That day the entire crew became an audience. Everybody left their work and were watching the shoot. Just the energy of the two of them… Both of them are powerhouses and to see them after 20 years, it’s going to be a treat. You may or may not like the movie but that scene everybody will enjoy because first, it is a very important scene, it is a very sweet scene and secondly, shooting it was a treat,” said director Kabir Khan.

He goes on to add, “I actually found many similarities in their approach. Of course it was a very small shoot which I did with Shah Rukh, yes I did work with him for a short film. In that shot, it is very difficult to say what difference or similarity is. But in that one shoot, both of them do approach the scene pretty instinctively. They don’t over-prepare. I read the scene out to Shah Rukh and he didn’t ask too many questions. When we were on set, I said let’s do this and that and he pretty much followed what I was saying and then brought what only he could bring in. That’s the same with Salman, he doesn’t like over-preparing. I also don’t like that. I get bored during readings and I am like, ‘When will this end?’ The thing is there is a certain energy that comes only on set when the camera is ready when the lights are set, when the background cast is there, when you wear the costume. There is a certain energy which bounces off from everything,” Kabir said.

JAB HARRY MET SEJAL MINI TRAILS

Taking to a unique way of marketing their film Jab Harry Met Sejal, the makers released mini trailers on Sunday. The Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma-starrer 'Mini Trail', as the makers call them, established the two lead characters Harry and Sejal in two separate videos.

Bollywood royalty Shah Rukh Khan explained the reasoning behind the promotional tactic for his upcoming film, Jab Harry Met Sejal.

Khan said: “We didn't want to go the usual way with this film. Imtiaz's films are always about the moments between his characters. So we have prepared the promotional campaign in such a way that the audience gets to catch glimpses of such moments, which gets them closer to Harry and Sejal. By the time you go the theatres to watch the film, you already know who Harry and Sejal are."

Starring Anushka Sharma as Sejal, director Imtiaz Ali added: “We have prepared the promos in couplets. So there will be two moments releasing first and then there will be a song that we will launch.”

YALGHAAR SUPERSTARS SHARE EXPERIENCES WORKING WITH ARMY

By Enlighten India Blog - June 22, 2017

YALGHAAR SUPERSTARS SHARE EXPERIENCES WORKING WITH ARMY

Yalghaar, one of the biggest releases to ever come out of the Pakistani film industry, is based on the true story of a military operation in one of the most difficult terrains of the Swat valley against an extremist stronghold.

Pakistani superstar Gohar Rasheed, who was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 2012 New York Film Festival, shares his opinions on the Pakistani army, who the cast spent time with while filming.

Rasheed says: “Whatever misconception there is about them, the army, I didn't see that. They are aggressive and strict like people say they are. They are really sweet. They invited us to dinner in their homes; they introduced their families to us. They are very nice people.”

Rasheed’s cast-mate, heartthrob Bilal Ashraf, also reveals the reason behind the three yearlong production of the film.

Ashraf says: “The actual reason behind the delay was the shoot. We lived with the soldiers during the shoot. We use their equipment, their choppers, their men, everything. If anything, God forbid, had to happen. The priority becomes the safety, obviously. The film used to be set on the back burner.”

The cast is evidently very proud of the work they put into this film. Ashraf adds: “I have just returned from the colour grading session in London. Yalghaar is a hit, no doubt about that.”

Vishal Aditya Singh and Madhurima Tuli

Spread across a sprawling 32,000 square feet, Chandrakanta’s sets, designed by National Award winning Art Director Chandravadan More, highlight regality and opulence of the magical realms. Three distinct zones, Queen Iravati’s darbar in Vijaygarh, Prince Shivdutt’s darbar in Suryagarh, and Chandrakanta’s foster parents’ fisherman’s shack, have been authentically created to form the perfect setting for Chandrakanta and Veerendra’s love saga. Intricately designed costumes, by Sameera Ahmad, offer a kaleidoscope of vibrant colours which add a dimension to the complexity of the monolithic and prodigious backdrop. Chandravadan More is a renowned Art Director who has taken a keen eye for production design, especially related to fantastical and magical themes. He has won the National Film Award for Production Design for the 2000 movie Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story.

Chandrakanta’s sets recreate the mystique and excitement linked to the fairy tales from the yore. Meant to evoke a sense of regality, COLORS and Balaji Telefilms have designed an extravagant and intricately carved set spread across 32, 000 Sq. ft. in Mumbai's Filmcity. More than 700 people have worked diligently to create the mammoth sets over a period of 45 days. The intricate designs have been carved using materials like iron, fibre and rubber to create an authentic look.

Along with Madhurima Tuli, Vishal Aditya Singh, Urvashi Dholakia and Shaad Randhawa, Chandrakanta will feature an ensemble cast including actors Shilpa Sakhlani as Queen Ratnaprabha (Chandrakanta’s birth mother), Sandeep Ranjora as King Jai Singh (Chandrakanta’s birth father), Prerna Wanvari as Vishaka (Chandrakanta’s aunt), Nirmal Soni as Djinn (Chandrakanta’s best friend), Shruti Golap as Ruchi (Chandrakanta’s adoptive aiyaar mother), Sayyad Mohammad Iqbal as Bheema (Chandrakanta’s adoptive aiyaar father), Purvi Mundada as Champa (Veerendra’s best friend), Amit Sinha as Kroor Singh (Shivdutt’s confidante) and many more.

The fictional show that was launched on June 13, promises a magical tale of love, passion and revenge. Said Producer Ekta Kapoor from Balaji Telefilms at the launch, “Chandrakanta is a very special show for us and it has very big shoes to fill. That said, we were filled with excitement over the prospect of creating this show. The plot is gritty, complex, passionate and is laced with top class VFX which will transport the viewers into alternate reality. We hope that Naagin’s ardent viewers and voracious fantasy-fiction aficionados enjoy watching Chandrakanta and support this mammoth venture.”

PC: Foram Patel

STEP 1: Clean your face with a cleanser that suits your skin type.

STEP 2: Prepare your skin with toner and moisturizer. Let the skin absorb it completely.

STEP 3: To have flawless and even texture, apply a good primer.

Face Primers

STEP 4: Use a concealer to hide your acne, marks and dark circles. You could also use colour corrector for hiding imperfections.

Hide your spots with a concealer

STEP 5: Time to apply foundation. Choose a foundation that matches your skin tone and skin type. Foundation comes in different bases, namely liquid, cream and powder. For medium to light coverage, liquid foundation works great and for very heavy coverage, cream foundation is the best. Then set your foundation with translucent powder.

STEP 6: To enhance your facial features, it is important to highlight and contour your face. Use highlight and contour powder pallet. Highlight the T area of your face, that is, your nose, forehead and chin. This advocates a sharper and glowing look to your face.

STEP 7: Moving to the eyes, add some eye-shadow primer to keep your eye makeup long lasting. Use darker shadows near the crease and outer corners. For eye lids, use lighter shimmery shadows with some glitter.

STEP 8: Do a quick eyeliner with gel or liquid liner.
